Graphix was the new Misfit for 1988. She seems to be designed around December 1986, just like the Stingers dolls. So that is a clear indication that both the Misfits and the Stingers were planned for release in 1988. Graphix was thought to be designed with a turtleneck, because the details are blown out in the only photos to surface. But the costing pattern is proof that she was going to wear an asymmetrical jacket.
Re-dress Pizzazz/Pizzazz Update ’88 seems to be added to development around March of 1987. Re-dress Pizzazz seems to be the very last doll added to the 1988 line, and then the Misfits were the first dolls to be canceled from the 1988 line. Not one, but two versions were created and the black jumper with red fur was the winner. We knew this because the Pizzazz prototype with a new head mold was sold on eBay around the same time as the Stingers dolls, and same seller. The same dress was in the PTO (Preliminary Turn Over) pattern meaning it was turned over to go into production. Pizzazz Re-dress ’88 (#2) only had a costing pattern which is earlier in the design process.
It’s always been strongly rumored that Clash was going to be re-released in 1988. I personally have never had confirmation on Clash's release. But 1988 Clash seems very, very, very, likely because of the re-release of the Holograms Video and Danse for 1988. Also Clash would have made a third doll in the assortment, and three is the preferred number for an assortment. More than likely the 1988 Clash doll would have had longer hair, and some Clash dolls have surfaced with longer hair. That may have been a change at the factory for 1988, but used on some of the last 1987 doll when the Misfits were canceled. |
