When Hasbro told Sunbow to create the cartoon about Jem and the Holograms, Jem’s boyfriend and her rival band the Misfits, they also told Sunbow that Jerrica (Misty) and Jem (M) were the same person that transformed by a hologram from Jerrica’s computer Synergy. Other than the flashing Jemstar earrings, it seems Hasbro had nothing in mind for Synergy -- at least nothing has been revealed to think otherwise.
I believe everything about Synergy was created by Sunbow, from her female alter ego to the computer console unit. We find out that Jerrica’s father created a “Holographic computer designed to be the ultimate audio video entertainment synthesizer” and Jerrica inherited Synergy after Emmett’s death. Jerrica and the Holograms had to keep Synergy a secret, because she was a super computer which could be misused if in the wrong hands. Emmett was unable to submit patents for Synergy to protect his creation before his death. In a later episode, we find out that the female persona was original based on his late wife Jacqui Benton, Jerrica and Kimber’s mother, but he could stand to look at her, so he altered her look.
To stop Eric Raymond’s misuse of her father’s record company, Jerrica used Synergy and the Jemstar earrings to create an alter ego to complete with Eric’s band the Misfits. Besides creating holograms, she could also process records, access credit card accounts, land records, car manufacturer to get car blue prints, and even hack into the Pentagon database – all without any internet or wifi connection.

Similar to the Starlight Girls, Hasbro seemed to take what Sunbow had created and developed a doll of Synergy. Hasbro decided that Synergy would be Jem’s high-tech fairy godmother. Because the Synergy doll has a new fashion different then what she original wore in the series, the doll feels similar to the “New Look” holograms – the doll was even designed by the same designer as the “New Look” Holograms. But like the “New Look” Holograms and Flash’n Sizzle Jem/Jerrica, Synergy’s new redesigned look never appeared in the series.

In the theme of Synergy not being complete because the patents were not submitted, the Jem movie striped her down to a non-functioning robot, which only active when Jerrica took her back to the L.A. area. As Jerrica found her missing parts, in locations Emmett left them for Jerrica to find, Synergy became more animated, and was able to create holograms and manipulate the Jemstar earrings.
