Grey's Anatomy star and photographer Brad Everett Young was one of our own. Love him or hate him, he was the founder of “Jem’s Space” on myspace.com. He shared some great photography of Jem dolls, fashions, and prototypes. The information was not always correct, because his main source didn’t really have a connection to the Jem line. He is a devastating loss to the Jem community. |

Mexican JEM
| Like the Spanish dolls,
the Mexican dolls seem to be manufactured in the same
country they where released in. Mexican dolls are know
for having no stamp what so ever. The plastic and fabrics
are all different from the international version, manufactured
in Hong Kong and China. Some Hybrid versions have China/Hong
Kong heads, even 2nd issue Hologram heads. There has
been no sign of a Rio doll made in Mexico, also no sign
of fashions. I think someone said the Roadster was released
in Mexico, but no information is known, and if it was
released there for sure, and if it was manufactured
in Mexico, or imported. Strange enough, most Mexican
dolls have been found in the UK. |

The Jem dolls from Mexico where made by a different company.
"Juguetes con Vida" made these dolls, but it
is a subdivision of Hasbro. |

These dolls are not the same quality as the Hasbro
line. The make-up, fabric, instrument colors and plastic
all differ from the normal world wide produced Jem.
These can be argued as being knockoffs. They are not
Hasbro manufactured, or produced. But Hasbro did give
licensing to Juguetes con Vida to produce these dolls.
Since they are not part of the standard line, I see
how the idea of knockoff enters the picture. But they
are licensed by Hasbro, so to me these are a part of
the line just like the coloring books and penicels.

Vs. Jem for more pictures and information about
these dolls.
Jem/Jerrica, Kimber, Aja, Shana, Roxy, Pizzazz, and
Stormer where made by this company...it sounds like
Rio was not released in Mexico.
The Mexican dolls can either have an Mexican head (no
stamp, really light make-up) or the typical China/Hong
Kong head (with a stamp) and those are usually 2nd issue
dolls. The Holograms with China head have earring holes
and it sounds like the usually have earrings.
There are more pictures of the Mexican bodies on the
body page.
I am looking for each doll NRFB or MIB...the pure Mexican
dolls.
I'm also looking to buy loose/nude dolls to complete
the table below. |
