He shared some great photography of Jem dolls, fashions, and prototypes. The information was not always correct, because his main source didn’t really have a connection to the Jem line. He is a devastating loss to the Jem community.

“Let the Music Play” 20”x30” Presentation Illustration is almost identical to the Jem opening theme sequence animation. The only difference is a vail which was either added later or removed before this illustration. The heart tattoo is the interesting thing in this illustration, because it was also included in the Jem opening theme. I feel like this might be a different illustrator than the person who made the On Stage “Only the Beginning” Presentation Illustration, and the “Makin’ Mischief” and “Just Misbehavin’” below.

The animated Misfits doll commercial sequence uses all three Smashin’ Fashion Presentation Illustrations poses. “Just Misbehavin’” being the most interesting, because that is such a strange pose.

Smashin' Fashions Blistercard

This is a full set of fronts for the 1986 Smashin’ Fashions Blistercards and the back for “Truly Outrageous!.” The back has an error, the black outline around the "Smashin’ Fashions” pink/purple boxes and it’s white outline is missing the black outline too. I would guess these are some type of proof prints, because the reverse side are blank.

I never really noticed until seeing these, but the first two fashions are for Roxy, then, one for Stormer, and two for Pizzazz. It seems like that was Hasbro putting priority on Roxy, similar to the sequence in the opening theme song.

Unproduced 1988 Fashions
 

Smashin’ Fashions was another assortment Hasbro had planned to rerelease in 1988, at one point. With the Misfits being canceled for 1988, this line might have been canceled or renamed to better fit with the Stingers. The Smashin’ Fashion 609015-04M came with a Polaroid showing an earlier version of this dress with a yellow tiger print fabric. And 609016-03M/610074-01M looks like a Stingers fashion because of the yellow and black color, but this version was probably canceled. The yellow/black fashion seems to date to September/October, but by November a silver versions was created that became the Jem’s Bridesmaid dress in 5205-57 – “Hollywood Jem part 2: “And the Winner Is…”.” And I believe that was going to be released in the Hollywood Jem Fashion Assortment, because it was called “Special Promo.” So this fashion seems to be canceled as a Smashin’ Fashion a month before the Stinger dolls were designed. There was three versions 609015-01M/609016-03M/702002-150M of one prototype sold on eBay, the third 702002-150M was a sample sent back from the Asian factory to get approval. That is about as close as it gets to going into production.

With the Misfits being canceled, these fashions probably would have been sold for the Stingers and may have still be called Smashin’ Fashions. The colors would not necessary changed, because Stinger assortment fashions would not have been the black and yellow colors of the stage fashions.

Some of these fashion can be seen in the Video Costume/Mardi Gras Fashion Polaroid with some of the 1987 Smashin’ Fashions. Those images can be seen on the Mardi Gras Fashion page.

Unproduced 1988 Fashions
 

Nothing has surfaced for a 1988 Rio’s Fashions Assortment. At least one Rio doll, 1988 Rockin’ Romance Rio, was in the works, but I have a feeling the Rio Fashions Assortments would have been completely rolled into the Smashin’ Fashions. More than likely the 1988 Smashin’ Fashions would have been released for the Stingers, epically once the Misfits were canceled. I don’t see Hasbro making a separate fashion assortment for Riot of the Stingers, separate from Minx and Rapture. I also don’t Hasbro releasing male fashions for two different assortments. But if Wedding Kimber's groom was also released in 1988, then maybe a male assortment of fashions would have been justified.
