While trying to figure out what the possible stock number for the 1988 Holograms and Stingers could be, I made a few observations. This list has the stock numbers in order, but the majority of the following information relates to the specific items in assortments that starts with 4201, which is Aja of the Holograms.

• First observation is that after the 1986 Holograms and Misfits, Hasbro left stock numbers open for 9 more assortment dolls, or 3 assortments of 3 dolls. After they filled in those spots with the new 1987 3 Holograms, 2 Misfits and 3 Starlight Girls it only left 1 spot (4215), because 4216 was the first On Stage Fashion “Award Night”.
• Also in 1986 the “On Stage Fashions” and the “Flip Side Fashions” were given 16 stock numbers each, while only 8 were filled that year. With the addition of the 6 new 1987 fashion for both collection that left 2 stock numbers unused – On Stage 4230 and 4231 and Flip Side 4246 and 4247.
• The 1986/1987 Rio Fashion and Smashin’ Fashions are a little different since they were the last assortment in 1986. In theory 4262 and 4263 would be the unused stock number leaving 4264 for the next assortment. But the next number used is 4271 for Rio Fashions – leaving 9 extra spaces after the new 1987 Misfits Smashin’ Fashions: 4262 to 4270. 1987 Rio Fashions only had 4 extra spaces 4277 – 4280.
• Both of the new fashions sets for 1987 also had 9 spaces for additional fashions in those assortments. While only 6 fashions came out, Hasbro gave each of those assortments 15 spots just like they did for the 1987 Misfits Smashin’ Fashions.

So after all the fashion assortments and the 1987 Video Madness assortment the next available number would be 4315, unless Hasbro would have given Video Madness 10 spots making it 4321 or 15 spots making the next available number 4326. I know at least one person has seen (but does not remember) the stock numbers for Astral, Regine and a Rio Oh' Boy doll, so maybe one day he or someone else will find those numbers and pass the stock numbers along. But the only possible numbers could be 4215 or numbers after 4315.

Starting with Jem/Jerrica™ 4000, Jem, the doll assortments, Rio, Synergy, the fashion and playsets are also listed. Including the 1988 dolls and fashion assortments – stock and assortment numbers are from the 1988 Hasbro Pre-Toy Fair Catalog, the 1988 Hasbro French Media Guide, and 1988 price list from Circus World. So you’ll see the number between American Beauty Jem and Hollywood Jem is not used – 4008, which makes me wonder if there was a fifth Jem doll planned for 1988. Starting with 4000 Jem each doll assortment or new non-assortment doll are given the next highest number divisible by 5 – same goes for the fashions starting with 4040. Starting with 4080 Rock Backstager the playsets were divisible by 10. For some odd reason 4075 Video Madness and KJEM 4095 were added in front of 1986 playset stock numbers and divisible by 5 -- Wrist Rock was 4077 and the New Wave Waterbed was 4078 also prior to the original playset stock number. And oddly enough the stock numbers for the individual Wrist Rock (4071-4073) are before the assortment number. Not sure why, but my guess is that Hasbro was not originally planning to make them an assortment so they were given non assortment stock numbers, but Hasbro then decided to sell them in the assortment. It may also have to do with the fact that they are really licensed products sold under the Hasbro name. Hasbro gives room for a fourth (4074) Wrist Rock. This also leaves 4079 (last unused number before 4080 Rock Backstager) and 4085 (next unused number divisible by 5).

You’ll also notice that Glitter’n Gold Rio, and the Glitter’n Gold Roadster have a number immediately following their 1986 version – just like Glitter’n Gold Jem/Jerrica.

The only other oddity is the Rio Fashion assortment which falls into the Smashin’ Fashions assortment – the Rio fashions are the first 3, but their assortment number is 4051, which is one number higher than the Smashin Fashion assortment (4050.) That would indicate the Hasbro decided the pull the Rio fashions out of the Smashin Fashion assortment after they set the individual stock numbers – of course the Rio fashions were still packaged as Smashin’ Fashions in 1986.
