According to "DollStars," Spring 1986, there where going to be nine dolls released for JEM…two males and seven females. The seven girls, and Rio where the only dolls to come out that first year. So why does this article say two males?

This page is more fun then anything, there is little proof of this Mystery Man doll. I have set up pros and cons for each of the show characters it might be...if he is real. This is all speculation and very little to go on.

For example: the Hologram picture used for the 1986 poster has Rio in it, but it was cut in such a way to leave him out of the poster picture -- maybe there is another doll in the Misfit picture that was also cut out.

Eric Raymond - theories

theory 1) Clue 1:
Eric Raymond is mentioned in a lot of different packages/information, so he may be this second male doll. The Italian Misfits doll box names Eric Raymond ... explaining who the Misfits are … why would his name need to be listed, if he does not relate directly with the doll line. Licensing information names Eric Raymond as Jerrica's father's former partner. It seems odd that Eric is named but not Jerrica's father, Emmette Benton.

Clue 2:
The Smashin' Fashion "Truly Outrageous" is very similar to Eric's suit in the show.

Anti-Clue or Clue:
Christy created Eric, which means Eric did not come from Hasbro but from Sunbow, difference between the dolls and show. Usually the dolls where created, then shown to Sunbow so they could work them into the show. She also created the Starlight Girls, and three of them became dolls without her knowledge -- so just because it's Christy's character does not mean we can rule him out as a possible doll.

Or The author might have seen Eric Raymond's name and assumed he was also a doll.

Zipper - theory

Clue 1:
Zipper is kind of my second thought. At the same time Pranceatron Vs. Jem learned from a friend of Bill Sanders -- Bill told his friend a doll was named after them … Zipper.

Clue or Anti-Clue:
Zipper was originally Christy Marx creation, but that was not his original name. "Perve" was the original name for that character. Christy can not remember why the name was changed -- if she changed it, if Hasbro wanted her to change it, and/or gave her the name to use.

Techrat - theory

Clue or Anti-Clue:
Another thought would be Techrat, another of Christy's characters from the show. The only thing that would point me in the direction of him, is that Christy did not get to develop him the way she wanted. It seems like she was trying for a non-gender specific character. But Techrat is most defiantly male.

If not one of these: Eric, Zipper, or Techrat then we may have no idea who this second male doll might have been, or what his purpose was.

One last thought, when JEM was just "M" it was said that she had an all-male band original. So this Mystery Man might just be some type of left over from the male band.
